Dr.Minerva Guerrero, Ph.D., LMHC

I am the founder of Mind Matters Mental Health Counseling, PLLC, located in Westchester County, New York.

I have a Ph.D. in Mental Health Counseling from Pace University and am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State. I am certified in both Internal Family Systems (IFS), and EMDR. I’m bilingual and able to provide treatment to adults who want to connect in English, Spanish, and/or Spanglish!

In my clinical practice, I specialize in working with professional women and entrepreneurs who have a trauma history, struggle with anxiety, or are having a really challenging time dealing with a significant life change.

I also provide psychological assessments, mental health reports for immigration evaluations.

I formerly was the Program Director and Professor for a Mental Health Counseling Graduate Program but I resigned to focus on my therapy and coaching business.

In addition to therapy, I am an EMDR Approved Consultant and offer consultation to newly trained therapists.

I’m also a mom, a wife, and a proud Latina. I love to spend time with my family and friends, enjoy traveling, and trying new things.

Work with me, Dr. G, as your therapist

Trusting someone with your most vulnerable thoughts and feelings can be difficult for many of us. I strongly honor and respect the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek help and to get real and honest about all the parts of our lives, especially the messy and complicated parts.

Life is challenging and we will all go through difficult times leaving us feeling depressed, anxious, or out of control. Some of us will also experience trauma that will feel like a permanent scar and leave us feeling broken and forever flawed. That’s why I am much more concerned with who you are as a person and what you are struggling with than a diagnostic label. I’m not saying that I’m dismissing mental health diagnoses but I do advocate for the reduction of their over-use and instead increasing awareness of the human experience.

I want you to stop questioning your sanity so that you can better understand what happened to you and how it’s impacted your life. In other words, I will help you stop asking yourself “What’s wrong with me?” and pivot to a more accurate and appropriate question of “What have I been through?”

Most of my counseling clients struggle with:

* re-experiencing a past trauma that interferes with their everyday life

* being scared of getting too emotionally connected with others

* attachment issues that come up with their parents or romantic partners

* constant worry, anxiety, and/or panic attacks

*a core feeling of insecurity despite having achieved success in multiple areas in their life and career

* low self-esteem and not feeling worthy enough to actually enjoy the goodness in their lives

* highly critical and constantly question many of their thoughts/decisions

* have had frustrating experiences with old-school therapy where you just talk and vent about your day.

Why work with me?

* I have a really clear understanding both professionally and personally that no matter how good things look on the outside, it totally makes sense for things to not feel good on the inside. I won’t judge you, or think you’re difficult, or doubt the severity of your struggles because “you have it all together”.

* I’m always staying current with the most effective treatments, especially anything related to trauma and anxiety. My friends make fun of me for ALWAYS being in a workshop.

* I’m clear in how I can or cannot help you and have no problem referring you to another clinician if I don’t believe that I’m the best fit for you.

* I will see YOU for exactly who YOU really are regardless of how complicated, messy, or painful things are for you right now in order to increase your own self-acceptance.

* I will teach you the skills you need in order to succeed on your own so that you’re not in therapy forever.
